A quick look at an illustration of what the costs associated would be according to the Jungle Disk’s cost table of .15 per GB storage, .10 per GB uploaded (doesn’t include the minimal Get and Put fees). Lets say your photos, videos, and HD camcorder files are 138GB. That would equate to a $13.80 upload fee and roughly a $20.70 monthly charge for the first month. Subsequent months would be $20.70 as long as you don’t upload or download anything new. Annual cost would be $241.50 which seems a bit steep, but for the amount of data is quite in line or less expensive than some other services. Also, just for reference, the desktop version of Jungle Disk is a $20 one time fee that includes lifetime upgrades.
Pro’s
* Truly unlimited storage. No “reasonable usage” clause.
* Strength of Amazon.Com. No doubts of your data disappearing.
* Ease to Use.
Con’s
* Can only backup at the Share level.
* Client has a cost associated with it
* No substantial usage information in the Add-In Client.
* At bit Pricey
JungleDisk’s provides admirable customer support offered via FAQs, user guides, knowledge base, forums, email, and phone. Although our list of Con’s is greater than our Pro’s, the Add-In is very easy to use and we feel very comfortable with storing our invaluable documents with Amazon. Should anything ever happen in your home/business and you lose all your files I doubt you would feel the service is “pricey.”
