Media Fire Online Backup and Storage

Overall Rating

Overall Rating

MediaFire is an online storage and file sharing service that offers a extremely generous set of features and services with their on the house account including unlimited storage, 100 MB file size limit, unlimited uploads, unlimited downloads, unlimited bandwidth, embeddable sharing widget, and image galleries. Upgrade to the MediaFire Pro version and you’ll get direct/hot link to documents, a 10 GB file size limit, redundant backups, no ads, rollover bandwidth, SSL encryption, advanced statistics, and priority support. The MediaFire Pro accounts come sizes of 100 GB for $6.97 per month ($0.07/GB/month), 250 GB for $14.97 per month ($0.06/GB/month), and 1000 GB for $49.97 ($0.05/GB/month).

The is no client software and you upload files to their website to store files online. It can be shared with people as well, by just sending out the link that Mediafire gives you when you have uploaded the file.  This of course means the files are basically broadcast, meaning security is almost non-existent for those with enough savvy to want your data.  Customer support is nominal and provided via FAQs and support tickets only.

Pros

* Mediafire does not delete the file after a certain amount of days if you do not download it during that time.MediaFire Online Data Backup and Storage
* The files are easy to download. No waiting around, playing hide and seek. It is straight forward. Many of those downloading services make it impossible for some people to find the real download link, as either you have to enter some letters, or find the link on a page full of ads. It can be extremely annoying for people.
* There is no downloading limit. No bandwidth running out, which is very good.

Cons

* For a slow internet connection, it is extremely hard to upload. Sometimes, after an hour or two, the page shows as ‘Page cannot be displayed’ error, this can be frustrating if you have already spent a few hours uploading.
* Files are limited to 100MB. That is, if you have a file bigger, you cannot upload it to Mediafire as it will delete the file.
* Many times, the files show an error that it cannot be found in the server.
* One file can be downloaded as many times as possible without the server going down.
* Ads with non Pro account

All and all MediaFire is a very simple (as they claim),  usable online data storage and file sharing service and may work for those on a tight budget, but lacks the luster of some of the other services out there, which would be indicative of the outlay.
